Head Coach, Matt Sturgess, is expecting Camberley to provide a stern examination of his high-flying Wimborne side when they visit Leigh Park on Saturday:
“We are really looking forward to facing Camberley who have come down from the league above.
So, it will be a really good test for us despite their current position in the league.
We don’t feel that is a true reflection of where they should be so we will certainly not be taking them lightly.
Everyone at the club is looking forward to a really good game of rugby and the boys are certainly up for it” he added.
Wimborne 1st XV currently sit top of “Regional 2 South Central” with bonus point victories in all 4 fixtures averaging a very healthy 50+ points per game.
Alongside second-placed Tottonians, they have opened a little gap to the chasing field, but they are fully aware of the need to kick on.
Assistant coach, Tom Roberts, concurred:
“We are looking forward to this weekend’s game against Camberley - the lads have performed well in recent weeks, and we are hoping to continue in this manner come Saturday!
“We need to make sure our execution and decision-making are on point.
“Camberley will be coming into this game motivated and looking to show how good they are.
“It is important we put in another strong performance and play how we want to play, keep the ball moving and playing fast.
“If we do this, which we have done really well so far this season, then I am confident we will be in a good place come Saturday night.”
Prop Tom Childs makes his first start of the season having come off the bench last weekend, while James Houghton retains the 7-shirt following his barnstorming, all-action display against Twickenham.
Ed Elliott returns to the midfield, resuming his burgeoning partnership alongside Rhys Gosling; they will be hoping to once again unleash a rapier back 3 of Flynn Drummond, Jack Adams and Sam Fenton who have terrorised defences to date.
On the bench, James Newsom will look forward to winning his first senior cap having hugely impressed in last weekend’s second team rout of Frome.
Stand-in captain Tim Ellis continues to lead the side from second row and is thoroughly looking forward to the weekend's challenge:
"We head into this weekend full of confidence after an excellent away win against a tough Twickenham side and we will be looking to carry that momentum forwards into this home fixture against Camberley.
"With confidence growing within the squad, we'll be looking to capitalise on home advantage this weekend and keep our impressive start to the season going.”
Meanwhile Wimborne Second XV travel to similarly unbeaten Bridport and lead coach, Barry Maidment, has many fond memories of close tussles twixt the two.
“Through the years the games between the two clubs have always been very competitive and I am sure Saturday’s fixture will be no exception.
Bridport held the upper hand last season but only by the odd point or two.
Both teams are undefeated so far this season and it promises to be an exciting game – which they usually are,” he said.
Wimborne’s 3rd XV welcome “East Dorset Dockers 2s” and will be hoping to bounce back following a first defeat of the season to Sherborne last time out.
