Wimborne RFC 70th Anniversary Season 2019/2020

Dear All,

May I take this opportunity of welcoming you all, as we enter, with much anticipation, this our 70th Anniversary Season.

Obviously, as I am sure you will all appreciate there are a number of long established critical volunteers who have chosen to step down this season having certainly put in both an incredible and much appreciated shift in supporting our club.

I welcome Giles Hewson as our new Director of Rugby and Paul Gosling as Chairman of Mini and Youth, I am also very grateful to Jared, Mike M, Mike F and Bob who have chosen to continue on the management committee this season.

I am also very pleased to welcome Dan Draper who has taken on a new role of Commercial Manager, a position we very much need with the new ground on the horizon.

From a playing perspective, we are very pleased to announce that we have managed to secure the services of Frazer Wilford as Lead Coach. Frazer has without doubt built upon a very successful playing career and is quickly establishing himself as one of the areas brightest and most creative coaching talents.

I am not one who feels that we should set goals for the season, needless to say, with our playing strength across all our senior teams and further, the preseason which I get tired just watching, I have no doubt that we shall turn a few heads as we continue our journey in South West One East.

I am sure that you will all be interested in what plans we have for this season, well let's just say there is a significant amount of work going on behind the scenes in an attempt to deliver a fantastic season both on and off the pitch. Please keep a watchful eye on our website and social media channels for up to date information.

Our marquee event this year will be our end of season 70th Anniversary Dinner at the Hilton Hotel in Bournemouth, or by special arrangement the Hilton Hotel Wimborne, on the 2nd May 2020, a fantastic night is planned and further very much in demand. I believe that the second tranche of Tickets shall be released in December.

Whilst I appreciate, our new ground initiative is some 5 years away from delivery, it is very important that we all focus on positioning ourselves, very much in a place, where we can take full advantage of the opportunity. At this early stage of the process there is not very much meat on the bones which is not unusual in a development of this magnitude, however it is extremely important that we use this time wisely and if nothing else raise as much money as we can to facilitate our options.

This being the case there are a number of things you as members can do:

  • Pay your membership - simply we are a members club paid for by the members do it now the details are on the web site - Bob Fountain, I am sure will be happy to speak with you.
  • Are you a business owner or a business influencer then please take advantage of our Patrons Draw the details you will find on our web site on the INFO page
  • Are you a player, then take advantage of our Player Sponsorship packages these are designed to help you !
  • Are you just an old school member who wants to have a good day out with Friends - then take advantage of our VP Lunch Packages - Mike Moysey is heading these up with both Maria and Jo supporting your match day experience (we have changed the format of these this season so expect a bit of a shock when you attend)

I will finish this with an invite to  you all, YOUR club needs you now more than ever, we are arguably entering into one of the most exciting times in the club’s history, join us on the journey to deliver what we Deserve, Want and  Need - A NEW HOME fitting of a Club which has provided so much to so many over such a long time - This is certainly not the time to take a step backward !

I very much look forward to seeing you all on 31st August 2019, when we take on Chichester RFC at Home - the final preparation of a tough preseason.

Kind Regards

Roger Whyle
Chairman, Wimborne RFC
